Covid-19 – Impact on Financial Statements

All financial statements currently being prepared and issued should include information and disclosures related to Covid-19. The specific circumstances for each entity could vary from a minimum of some disclosure in the going concern and a subsequent events note, all the way to a substantial restatement of a significant portion of the financial statements.

Before finalising any set of financial statements, it is strongly advised that all preparers acquaint themselves with material that has been made available by IRBA (specifically related to reporting matters and going concern) and SAICA (providing guidance and links to many accounting related matters).

Please ensure that you have taken all impacts of Covid-19 into consideration in each set of financial statements, that all measurement changes required by the applicable financial reporting framework have been considered, and that disclosures as required by that framework have been included. While the existing notes in our template will cover some of the aspects already (around disclosures such as impairments, credit loss adjustments, financial risk management etc), each entity is unique, and additional disclosures may need to be added to provide users with sufficient information.
